Asslamu-alaikum ! I m a doctor from Pakistan . There is something bothering me for sometime .Here in Pakistan we have a fairly decent islamic envirnoment for practicing our believes and living ones life according to the teachings of islam . But problem arises when out doctor migrate t western societies for higher training . like Europe and America. As u obviously know that in these societies shaking hands and huggs are very casually practiced without any gender discrimination . specially in a hospital setting these are very common ways of greeting early morning and also in meeting and stuff its a way to develop professional relationships . Being a muslim i dont feel very comfortable with this idea .But according to some of my brothers and sisters already working in these societies , these practices cannot be stopped because they interpret it as rude and arrogant . and specially when these non muslim men and women do not have any wrong intentions. According to them its part of thier profession. kindly guide me that in such a situation, is shaking hands with collleagues and seniors from opposite sex permissible or not ? how wrong is it ? how can it be avoided ? can we develop an alternate attitude and what should that be ? This particular issue is bothering a lot of muslim brothers and sisters in western world. waiting for ur reply eagerly
