Eid Al-Adha

The topic of my speech is Eid Aladha (festival or celebration of sacrifice)

Dear faithful brothers and sisters:

The Eid in Islam is a form of worship. There are two Eid occasions in Islam and they are both linked to a form of worship. This Eid, Eid Aladha, which is linked to the Pilgrimage form of worship and Eid Alfetr which is linked to the fasting of Ramadan form of worship.

Eid is neither entertainment nor dancing and drinking parties; nor it is debauchery or engagement in immoral behavior. It is the time to manifest the strong love and brotherhood among all Muslims.

Eid Aladha coincides with the incident of Ishmael's (PBUH) ransom from sacrifice. Allah, the Almighty, commended Abraham that he sacrifices his son Ishmael (PBU Them), Abraham fulfilled Allah's commandment and started to sacrifice his son, but, Allah ransomed Ishmael from being sacrificed. Allah says describing this great trial (Then when the son reached the age of serious work with him. He said: O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice. Now see what is thy view. The son said: O my father! do as thou art commanded: thou wilt find me, if Allah wills one practicing patience and constancy. So when they had both submitted their wills to Allah, and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead for sacrifice, we called out to him, O Abraham! thou hast already fulfilled the vision thus indeed do we reward those who do right, for this was obviously a trial, and we ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice)

Two great lessons may be learned from this tremendous test and trial:

First, Absolute submission to Allah: Although, Abraham was an old man and Ishmael was his only son, he and his son fully submitted their wills to their creator and the father laid his son to be sacrificed. By this total submission to Allah, Abraham passed the obvious trial from Allah.

So, brothers and sisters fear Allah and obey him. Fulfill what Allah has ordained and leave all that which he prohibited. Surely its the only way to succeed in life and the hereafter (Insha' Allah).

Second, Complete obedience to parents. Ishmael (PBUH) obeyed his father and put forth his forehead in submission to be sacrificed. So brothers and sisters obey and be kind to your parents for that it is Allah's orders. Allah (the Almighty) says (Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but him, and that ye be kind to parents whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life. so not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor). You must obey your parents even if they are not Muslims except in matters which may negatively affect your faith.

The Eid and the Pilgrimage:

Eid Aladha marks the end of pilgrimage. Allah ordered Abraham to announce and call for pilgrimage. Since the days of Abraham (PBUH) Muslims everywhere still answer that divine call of Abraham.

You can now view the people in Mecca, conducting the same tasks, they are all wearing the same white clothes. Everyone is in full submission to thy Lord. Everyone is asking for his mercy and forgiveness. Surely it is a divine scene as if it is a sample from the day of judgment.

Dear brothers and sisters:

All pilgrims are now in Mecca, they all look the same in their white dress; they are united under the articles of faith that (There is no deity but Allah, and Mohammed (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah). They are one Muslim nation, the nation of Mohammed (PBUH).

Surely, there is no difference between an Arab and a Hindu or a Pakistani and an Iranian or a Black and White; we are all children of Adam and Adam was created from dirt. {Verily The most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you}. I humbly advise you to purify your hearts from the evil of nationalism and ethnic-ism which have been planted by the enemies of Islam to shatter our unity. Allah the Almighty says {Surely this nation of yours is a single nation and I am your Lord, Therefore serve me.}

Knowledge and Learning

Dear brothers and sisters:

Allah the almighty says (Proclaim (or read) in the name of thy Lord and cherisher who created- created man out of a mere clot of congealed blood. Proclaim! and thy Lord in most bountiful- he who taught the use of the pen, taught man that which he knew not)

The prophet (PBUH) said (The best among is that who learned the Quran and Taught it to others)

Islam is the religion of knowledge, and I call on everyone to learn the Islamic faith, and I call on everyone to teach their children the Quran. I urge you to do that because seeking knowledge is ordained upon every Muslim. With knowledge, we guarantee the future of Islam in America.

Muslim children are the future of Islam in this country; so let us teach them well and with the will of Allah, they will lead this country to Islam. Make some time in your daily schedule to read and learn about Islam; and further, make the time in your weekly schedule to teach you children and family what you have learned. Also, make your Masjid a school for learning and teaching Quran.

Islamic books and other media of audio, video tapes, and Internet are all available for those who seek it. So; brothers and sisters work on making all that available for you and your family. Allah says (Say: are those equal, those who know and those who do not know) and he also says (Those truly fear Allah, among his servants, who have knowledge)

Dear brothers and sisters:

One of the most important of Sunnah(s) in Islam is learning the Arabic Language Because it is the Language of Quran and Islam and it is the Language of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). The Arabic language was mentioned conjointly with Islam in eleven places of the Quran (our book of guidance) Allah says (We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran in order that ye may learn wisdom) he also says (Thus have we revealed it to be a judgement of authority in Arabic) and he also says (We have made it a Quran in Arabic, that ye may be able to understand and learn wisdom.)

It is important that we encourage everyone to learn the language of Quran in every Masjid. Brothers and sisters, it is difficult for one to have the knowledge of Islam without having the knowledge of the language of the Quran and Islam which is Arabic. Islam is universal religion for everyone regardless of color, race, or tongue; but, the fact remains that Arabic is the language of Quran and Islam.

So brothers and sisters, let us stand firm on learning our Islam and teaching it; and with the well of Allah, the light of Islam will shine breaking the darkness in this nation.

Dear brothers and sisters:

I would like to remind you with the most important Eid Sunnah(s)

1. Uphold takbeer in the days of Eid, Eid takbeer ends at Asur prayer of Friday. At the least, say takbeer after each prayer and as you ride your vehicle or enter your home.

2. Congratulate each other on this Eid and pay visits to your brothers in Islam. If able, provide your children with gifts so they might feel the joy of our Eid. Also, always be kind to your parents.

3. For those who are able, offer a sacrifice, it is a sure Sunnah. You may eat, store, and distribute the meat of your sacrifice as you wish.

AND ASALAM ALAYKUM WRAHMATU ALLAH
